Questions, problems, or something broken
Email hello@beatbytes.app and a person will read it. Including your iPhone model and iOS version makes it much faster to help.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the app and it works. Your library is stored on your iPhone rather than in an account, which is also why there is nothing to recover if you delete the app — see below.
Is it free?
Yes, and there is no subscription or paid tier.
Can I download songs to listen offline?
No. BeatBytes streams and does not download, save or export audio. An internet connection is required for playback.
Does it keep playing when I lock my phone?
Yes. Audio continues when the screen is off or you switch to another app, with lock-screen and Control Centre controls. This needs no setting turned on — it is not affected by Background App Refresh or Low Power Mode, which govern other things. If playback stops when you lock the phone, that is a bug rather than a setting, and we would like to hear about it: hello@beatbytes.app.
A song will not play
Some tracks are unavailable to play outside their original service — region-locked, removed, or restricted by the rights holder. When that happens the app tells you and moves to the next track rather than stopping. If everything has stopped playing, it is more likely a network problem or a temporary outage; try again shortly.
Where did my library go?
Your likes and playlists are stored on the device. They survive app updates, but they are removed if you delete the app, and they do not sync to your other devices. There is no account holding a backup copy.
I used the old BeatBytes and my library is gone
The earlier version of BeatBytes, removed from sale in early 2025, stored libraries on a server behind an account. This is a different app: it has no accounts, and those libraries are not carried across. Nothing you do in this version will bring one back.
We do still hold that database. If you had an account, email hello@beatbytes.app from the address you used and we will tell you honestly what is in it — though there is no import feature today, so knowing what it held may be all we can offer. You can also ask us to delete it; see the privacy policy.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Everything it stored goes with it, because none of it was anywhere else.
